The Quito Riots
The civil unrest and riots in Quito lasted from Oct 3rd - Oct 14th. At this time, the missionaries were very restricted in how much work they could do - if any at all. Most of them had to stay inside their apartments. We evacuation most of the Chillogallo and Turubamba zones and moved them to the apartments of the AP's, Secretaries, and the La Gasca Hermanas. It was tight quarters with 12 in one apartment, 19 in another, and 15 in the another. There were some scary moments for some, but the majority of missionaries were just really bored. We started to get a little nervous when store shelves emptied, but before it reached crises mode, the government and the indigenous people came to a truce and the rioting stopped.
